Why was I supposed to put my house for sale?

In the divorce settlement, I was awarded the house. And was supposed to put it for sale, put it on the market in 30 days. Why ? We owned a business. He got the business, and I got the house. But why do I have to sell the house?

The judgement and call your lawyer.

Because your ex’s name is on the title and that is how the judge is going to award him his share of the equity in the house…the business was probably not worth as much as the house, so you have to sell the house to make up the difference.

The only way out of it, is find out from your divorce lawyer (who SHOULD have explained this to you…I can’t believe you don’t know why your house must be sold), is to offer your ex the sum of money he is entitled to if he will quit-claim his name off title.

However, if his name is also on the mortgage, you have to credit qualify on your own (and you may or may not be able to), and if you can’t, your house has to be sold b/c he has a right to get the account out of his name so his credit is not affected.

Feel free to e-mail me if you have quesitons..I never sell anything online.
